Chapter 7 Part VI Generations of Noah (Found)

Generations of Noah (Found)

Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Recently in Generations of Noah (Walk) we learned of some of the things that Noah must do in order to walk with God. We learned that if One wants to have a true relationship with God, they must be prepared to commit themselves to a long and continuous walk. This walk will take the Believer through every possible scenario of life. It will take One over the mountains, through the valleys, through rain, through snow, through floods, etc… We also learned that contrary to what some may have come to believe, this walk requires action from the Believer. If One chooses to go with God, they must also move as he moves. Without reciprocation of movement or action there can be no walk and therefore no relationship. For through that walk, God becomes familiar with the Believer and visa versa. Today let us continue with the examination of Noah’s walk with God.

Whether physical or spiritual, every great structure requires four elements. The strength of these elements will help determine the structure’s longevity and status. First, a great structure must have a great foundation. A structure’s existence begins and finishes with the strength of its foundation. After the laying of this foundation, One may then start to build upon it. And, when built on this strong foundation, a structure will be able to withstand the agitations and disturbances which nature will inevitably bring its way. Secondly, every great structure requires time and care. In order to prevent and limit mistakes a great structure takes painstaking time and care to build. Thirdly, every great structure requires great effort. The size of the effort must match the size of the structure. Without the exertion of great physical and spiritual power, one cannot expect to build a great structure.

This is also true with all relationships. The structure of a great relationship is no different than that of a great house. One does not instantaneously have a great house; and so One cannot instantaneously have a great relationship. On a strong foundation, with time, care, and effort, both must be carefully built. Those relationships which are unable to weather the storms of life are those which are built on weak foundations with very little time, care and effort. Therefore, contrary to what some may have come to believe, a good relationship with God is not automatic.
Through One’s walk is how the relationship with God is built. Noah did not instantaneously have a great union with God. With the careful participation of both, their relationship is established and carefully built over time. This is how God knew that he could trust Noah to build the ark. After years of walking with Noah, he has seen and gathered enough evidence to use in making a reasoned judgement about his character. And this also applies with God in reference to Noah. Through their walk, Noah has seen the evidence of God’s character. Though he has never seen a flood of that magnitude, when God approaches him about the ark, he faithfully obeys. He does not need to see the flood, but he has seen the evidence presented to him by a God whom he has come to know as trustworthy and always faithful.

Now, as with all things, Noah’s walk or relationhip has a Beginning. With the examination of Gen 6:8, One will find that God has given the Believer this Beginning (Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.). From Gen. 6:8 we can see that Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. In order for us to understand how this act begins Noah’s walk, let us first define and rightly divide ‘found.’

Definitions Merriam Webster
1. Found (trans vrb) 1 : to take the first steps in building 2 : to set or ground on something solid : BASE 3 : to establish (as an institution) often with provision for future maintenance

In the meanings of ‘found’ One will find the first steps to how Noah starts to build his relationship with God. Let us implant the definitions into the body of the verse so that One can gain a clear understanding.
A. But Noah took the first steps in building (found 1), set or ground on something solid , based (found 2), or established (as an institution) often with provision for future maintenance (found 3), grace in the eyes of the LORD. Let us now define and rightly divide ‘grace

2. Grace: (n)1 a : unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification b : a virtue coming from God c : a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine grace 2 b archaic :MERCY, PARDON d : disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency e : a temporary exemption : REPRIEVE

In the rightly divided meanings of ‘grace’ One will find what Noah's relationship with God is first establihed on. Let us also implant these definitions into the body of the verse so that One can gain a clearer understanding.

A. Genesis 6:8 But Noah found unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification (grace 1a), a virtue coming from God (grace 1b), a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine grace (grace 1c), mercy, pardon (grace 2b), disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency (grace 2d), a temporary exemption , and reprieve (grace 2e) in the eyes of the LORD.

After a careful examination of the definitions, Believers should notice that in the construction of Noah’s relationship, God provides the first and most important element which is required in the building of all structures. Grace which is a foundation of God’s relationship with Noah is always present. If you will notice, Noah does not have to lay it or prepare it, all he has to do is find or realise it. And after he has found it, he can either choose to build on it or he can choose to leave it.

What Believers must understand is that from the beginning of creation Grace has always been present for man. If God is there in the beginning then Grace is there with him; it has to be. This is because Grace is part of God’s essential character. And since it is part of this character, it is there with him in the beginning and it is there with him at the Finish.

Now, there is another reason why Grace is always there for man. This reason stems from man’s construction. Being composed partly of flesh, man is prone to sin or fall. And since this is the case, God has instituted Grace as a means for reformation and redemption. For a creation which One has created with such an inclination, it would be unfair not to institute a means of redemption.

If One will study the fall of Adam they will see the evidence of this Grace. Grace must be there at that fall, because, if it is not present, then God would have destroyed all of mankind after that event. But because of his ever present Grace, God gives man a chance to reform and redeem himself.

Finally the foundation for man’s relationship with God has always existed. And since God is immutable,it is immutable. As long as he does not change, it will not change. Though some may like to believe it to be, Grace is not an individual possession. It is not designed exclusively for some. It is given as a foundation for the regeneration and sanctification of all mankind. Grace only becomes exclusive, when there is a rejection from those who refuse to take advantage of the opportunity that God has presented them for their regeneration and preservation.

Grace unused is Grace refused. Grace refused is Grace abused.”

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which [was bestowed] upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Chapter 7 Part V Generations of Noah (Walk)

Generations of Noah (Walk)

Gen. 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Amongst today’s Believers there is a misconception that the life in God requires no accountability for One’s physical actions. Believers have been taught that action has very little weight, while talk accounts for much. This type of mind-set has led to today’s anything goes mentality which is seen amongst those who are called. With this mentality in hand many behave in any manner; and with no shame these continue to claim the label of Christ.

The questions that One should ask is, if one is not held to account for their actions, why should One act accordingly? If one can behave in any kind of fashion and still attain heaven, then why should one change? What is the purpose of the name of Christ if One can still behave the same way after they have come into his revelation. If action accounts for very little, then what purpose does it serve.

Many have yet to comprehend that if One is to follow God, they must do it with all of their hearts and all of their might. Following God requires a pursuit in the physical as well as the pursuit in the mental and spiritual. Those who are God's are different in their speech as well as their actions. Both their speech and action is what separates them from the populace.

In Generations of Noah (State or Condition), we learned that above all the other generations, Noah’s status is ranked by God as just and perfect. The questions that many people have not stopped to ask is, What does Noah do to attain this rank? How is God able to tell the difference between the generations of Noah and the rest? Was it from what he said, or was it from what he did? In Genesis 6:9 we are given this answer. Gen. 6:9 (These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God).

After giving us Noah’s status of just and perfect in Gen.6:9, God makes it a point to inform other Believers the process which eventually led to this ranking. If One will notice they will see that Noah walked with God. One who is able does not obtain the rank of just and perfect from just talking about God. They must also go through the process of walking with him. Let us now define and rightly divide ‘walk’ so that we may see what a walk with God involves.

Definitions (Merriam Webster)
1. Walk: (vrb) 3 a : to pursue a course of action or way of life : conduct oneself : BEHAVE *walk warily* b : to be or act in association : continue in union *the British and American peoples will… walk together side by side…in peace — Sir Winston Churchill*

2. Behave: (vrb) trans verb 1 : to manage the actions of (oneself) in a particular way 2 : to conduct (oneself) in a proper manner intrans verb 1 : to act, function, or react in a particular way 2 : to conduct oneself properly

3. Walk: (n) 7 : manner of living : CONDUCT, BEHAVIOR

4. Conduct: (n) 3 : a mode or standard of personal behavior especially as based on moral principles *questionable conduct*

5. Behavior: (n) a : the manner of conducting oneself b : anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation c : the response of an individual, group, or species to its environment 2 : the way in which someone behaves; also : an instance of such behavior 3 : the way in which something functions or operates,

In the meanings of walk we will find what Noah did to walk with God. By implanting the definition into the verse One will get a clearer understanding of the verse and Noah’s walk with God.
A. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah pursued a course of action or way of life, conducted himself, and behaved with God. (Walk 3a)
B. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah was in association, and continued in union with God (Walk 3b).

Now, after examining the definitions of walk and all of the meanings which are associated with it, the first thing that One should see is that they all have one thing in common. One should notice that all things associated with walk deal with or evolve from action. Behavior requires action. Conduct requires action. To be in association or union with another requires action.

What this information immediately tells us are the five things that the generations of Noah have figured out. First, walking is a choice. One can choose to walk with or against God. This choice begins when One is able to distinguish right from wrong. Secondly, there is the fact that One cannot walk with God in speech alone. This means that it is impossible to follow an individual who is walking while One is only talking. If One chooses to talk, then they must also walk. For with talk alone, One will be left behind
Thirdly, it is impossible to walk with God without action. Those who claim to follow God cannot sit while he is the only One walking. As he acts, they must also act. As he moves, they must also move. Fourthly, God knows his people because of their walk. One cannot truly know an individual without interaction. The time that One spends in walking is the time that One spends in interaction and association. The Believer cannot interact with God if they are inert while he is walking. Fifthly, the walk with God is continuous. To walk with God One must make a total commitment. One cannot afford to walk today but skip tomorrow. One cannot afford to walk at home, but not at work. One cannot afford to walk in the morning but not at night. One cannot afford to walk amongst family but not amongst friends. God walks at all times, so must the Believer. There is no in between with God. One must either be hot, and devote their entire lives to him, or One can choose to be cold and devote their entire lives to fleshly pursuits. But One cannot be lukewarm, for as it is stated in the scriptures, they will be spewed out (Rev. 3:16). There is nothing more disgusting than the taste of lukewarm water when One is looking to be refreshed. More respect is given to the individual who wholeheartedly chooses the pursuits of earthly life, then they who halfheartedly choose to walk with God.

Finally, this walk is how God comes to know Noah. This is how Noah comes to know God. This is how Noah attains that status of just and perfect. This is how God knows that Noah will prepare the ark when told. This is how Noah knows that God has told him the truth about that end. It is because of that long and continuous walk. The walk that goes over many hills and mountains. That walk that goes through the valley of shadow of death. The walk that leads through floods. The walk that continues in snow, sleet, and hail. The walk that goes through that scorching noonday heat and continues into the cold of the night. The walk that moves One from darkness into the light. It is in that walk that God sees the expression of Noah’s love and commitment.

Without the change of action, there can be no repentance.”

Jeremiah 7:9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

Jeremiah 13:10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

Ezekiel 11:21 But [as for them] whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.

Chapter 7 Part IV Generations of Noah (State or Condition)

Generations of Noah (State or Condition)

Genesis 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

In Generations of Noah (Status) we discovered that in relation to other surrounding groups, a group of individuals who comprise a specific generation will always contemporaneously hold a certain status for a limited period. This status includes that groups position or rank in relation to others, the condition of that group in the eyes of the law, and the state or condition of that group with respect to circumstances. This status which is evident in all generations are identifying markers which distinguish them.

From Generations of Noah (Period) we learned that all generational periods also have identifying markers. These markers are tangible or observable phenomena. They may range anywhere from an exceptional invention, to an unusual, or abnormal person or occurrence. The periods and the status of the generations of Noah are no different. They are also distinguished by these tangible and observable markers. Today as we continue let us examine how God uses these markers to determine the status of Noah.

One of the biggest determinants of status may be found in the circumstances or events which a generation is born under. Each generation grows up under different circumstances, therefore each will eventually be in a different state or condition. These events or lack of events will help define the nature or character of each group. For example, if One were to examine and compare the generations of Americans who were born during the Great Depression and Word World War II with those generations which were born after that period, One will notice a marked difference in their states or conditions. This is because these generations were all born under different circumstances. Those born under the events of the Great Depression and WWII were born in very trying times, so their temper of mind, manners, and ways will reflect this. Many of those who are born after those periods were born under more pleasant circumstances. Many were not tested and tried by the events of war and hunger. They were not made to sacrifice or endure great pain. Instead, many grew up spoiled, sheltered and in relative peace and prosperity, so their temper of mind, manners, and ways will reflect this. Therefore each generations state or condition with respect to these circumstances or lack of circumstances determined their status.

Now, the state or condition of the generations of Noah is also determined by certain circumstances or events which are present during their existence. In Generations of Noah (Period) we examined those circumstances in respects to the period. Now we shall examine them in respects to Noah's status. And after examining them, we will find out why and how their status is regarded as such by the Living God (Gen. 6:8). Let us once again examine those circumstances.
In Gen. 6:11 we can find that corruption and violence are the circumstances which help determine the status of Noah’s generation. Genesis 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. Let us therefore define 'corrupt' and 'violence' so that we can fully understand the message.

Definition (Merriam Webster)
1. Corrupt: (adj) 1 a : morally degenerate and perverted : DEPRAVED b : characterized by improper conduct (as bribery or the selling of favors) *corrupt judges* 2 : PUTRID, TAINTED
3 : adulterated or debased by change from an original or correct condition *a corrupt version of the text*
synonyms see VICIOUS

2. Violence: 1 a : exertion of physical force so as to injure or abuse (as in warfare effecting illegal entry into a house) b : an instance of violent treatment or procedure 2 : injury by or as if by distortion, infringement, or profanation : OUTRAGE 3 a : intense, turbulent, or furious and often destructive action or force *the violence of the storm* b : vehement feeling or expression : FERVOR; also : an instance of such action or feeling c : a clashing or jarring quality : DISCORDANCE 4 : undue alteration (as of wording or sense in editing a text)

In the definitions of corrupt and violence God has given Believers the precise circumstances which the generations of Noah are existing under. During this time the surrounding generations have become morally degenerate and perverted , depraved (corrupt 1a), characterized by improper conduct (as bribery or the selling of favors) (corrupt 1b), putrid, tainted (corrupt 2), and adulterated or debased by change from an original or correct condition (corrupt 3).

Also during this time the surrounding generations are championing and welcoming exertion of physical force so as to injure or abuse (as in warfare effecting illegal entry into a house) (violence 1a), an instance of violent treatment or procedure (violence 1b), injury by or as if by distortion, infringement, or profanation , outrage (violence 2), intense, turbulent, or furious and often destructive action or force (violence 3a). They are filled with vehement feeling or expression, fervor (violence 3b), clashing or jarring qualities, and discordance (violence 3c). And there is an undue alteration (as of wording or sense in editing a text) (violence 4).

All of these illegal and improper acts which are found in the definitions of corrupt and violence are occurring during the time of the generations of Noah. They are occurring with such frequency and abundance that they have become accepted as normal and right. Those who refuse to support or partake of such illegal activities, are accounted as traitors and therefore worthy of death; while the perpetrators of such acts are held in high esteem by the populace.

The most remarkable part is that the generations of Noah remain incorruptible. They will eschew evil no matter what (1Pet. 3:11, Job 1:8). They will refuse to partake of and give sanction to the corruption and violence that is taking place in their world. They will not and cannot be bribed. They will refuse to accept outrage. They will refuse to be moved by vehement feelings or expressions. Though they are in the minority and the pressure is overwhelming, they will walk with God and remain steadfast to what is righteous. And because of their mind-set and effort under such overwhelming circumstances, Noah achieves two things. First, above all the surrounding generations their status is ranked as just and perfect by The True and Living God. Secondly, they find grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Finally, as you may see, the circumstances which Noah lives under are horrific, but they are necessary. Without these circumstances their can be no distinction between those who are Gods and those who are pretending. You see, those who are ungodly have no problem in participating and sanctioning violence and corruption. Those who are upright will refuse to welcome such behavior under any circumstance and at all cost. Therefore, by living under such overwhelming circumstances God can see who is who. Who is true? Who is a wheat? Who is a tare? Who is studying? Who is not studying? Who is hot? Who is cold? Who is lukewarm? Who is just there for the loaves and fishes? It is easy to talk the talk, but is One also able walk the walk.

For One that is able, verbal speech alone does not communicate their walk with God.”

Proverbs 30:14 [There is] a generation, whose teeth [are as] swords, and their jaw teeth [as] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from [among] men.

Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
